Today is the 5th Day of April, but here in Michigan it feels like January. The temperature has dropped 30-40 degrees in the last couple of days.
On Tuesday it was 65, today 25.
Tuesday was a good day, I was feeling better not as congested. I went to volunteer thinking it was going to rain, but the weather held out and we had fun. The rain came after, but was short. And around 6pm when I got home it was gorgeous so I went out running in short sleeves and shorts. I did 2 miles and really enjoyed it.
Yesterday I wake up to 35 degree temperatures and snow flurries. My nasal congestion issues back in full force. I knew I was going to be running outside last night with Women On The Move so I packed accordingly. We ended up having the option to go inside, but since I really don't like the indoor track as it tends to be too crowded, too hot and it is more laps around, I stayed outside. It wasn't really that bad once I got warmed up....except when the snow started again. It was a mini blizzard for a few minutes. I did about 2.6 miles last night, not including the walking warmup.
I am really glad today is Thursday, because that means tomorrow is Friday.
So against advisement from all sane beings, I went running outside today around 11am. I felt warm enough for the most part, but the cold weather makes my nose run, which makes it hard to breathe and then my lungs didn't like the cold weather either.
My garmin wouldn't sync. I think it was too cloudy, so I was out for about 10 minutes or so unrecorded. The trails were pretty empty, a few insane runners, an occasional dog walker and oh don't forget the ducks and geese. The river wasn't frozen over, so the ducks and geese were out having a good old time. I wanted to tell them it was too cold.
By the middle half of the run, I was warmed up and almost too warm, but I kept all the layers on. I did a walk run combo today since it was so cold and I didn't want to over do it.
I also used the bike yesterday at the gym and definitely think it works different muscles then the elliptical so I wanted to be careful not to over do it before my trip.
According to Garmin, I ran 1.61 miles in 33 minutes. I will hopefully have a more accurate total later.
Today I decided to try running in the middle of the day. The only time I have really been able to do this is on vacation or the weekend.
Today I ran in the middle of my workday. I got ready in a one stall bathroom that also happens to have a shower. I headed out around 12:15 for what turned out to be a 35 minute run, not including warm up walking (while the GPS Synced) and cool down walking (so I wasn't breathing heavy when I went back to the office.) The running in the middle of the day didn't turn out to be a problem. The almost 2 inches of snow we received overnight was.
The beauty of the arb is that it isn't really plowed so I don't have to worry about icy conditions, just the snow. It was quiet and peaceful and really pretty. The real problem was that I felt like I was moving through quicksand. The down hill portions were great, the up hills were awful and of course the come midway through the run and then again at the end. I walked more then I wanted to, partly because I kept losing traction, or I could feel a part of my body that was accidently exposed to the elements, and sometimes I walked just because I was sick of climbing the hills.
As a result of my walking too much, the run too much longer then I anticipated. Luckily I had come in to work early so I had time to spare.
I think I would do it again, not often, but maybe once a week for now. Once the snow is gone, it might be more fun.
Total time : 35.17
Distance: 2:11
First Mile : 15:09
Second Mile : 18:08
Fastest pace: 12:20, for .22 miles
Average pace 16:41
PS. The people I work with think I am crazy for running outside in the cold.
Today we went running in the arb. It was 19 degrees, and seemed much warmer then my recent runs. I didn't realize how hard it would be to run in the arb with the snow, the hills seemed that much worse. Our run was about 1.7 miles in 26 minutes. I ended up walking some of the hills, but ran the majority. The arb is really pretty and I like running there, I need to do it more often. I did have a problem with my garmin, I think it lost it's barring. I had gone almost a mile when it went back to .60 miles. Luckily sportstracks was able to fix it.
Mile 1 : 14:02
Total distance 1.7 miles,
Time 26.21 minutes
Last night I went to the gym and was able to do 30 minutes on the elliptical without any real pain. I found if I adjusted my speed and direction regularly that my hip got stretched in the right direction.
Even better then that though, this morning I went for a run and was able to run for 20 minutes without walking/stopping at all. I went approximately 1.4 miles, sports tracks and my garmin aren't completely synced so I am not sure what is most accurate. My first mile pace was 15.20. The run felt really good. It was cold, but i was dressed appropriately. It was quiet out, only a few dog walkers and myself. It is the kind of running I enjoy when I don't feel like I am going to die if I keep going, where my body agrees with my mind and time seems to fly.
I don't know how much farther i could have gone, probably not much farther without having to walk, but still an improvement on my previous runs this year.
Maybe it was my dream last night that motivated me, I had a bizarre dream that I was running in a race that I thought was an 8 or 10 k, with my mom and my sister, My sister either was running and had finished way before me or was just cheering us on. We got almost to the end, but needed to stop to buy cool bracelets that said we had run the race. I was like hurry up mom we are wasting time, but I yet I wanted the bracelet. I finished the race and was proud of my time of 55 minutes, until I realized the race was only a 5k .
It is really cold here today. We even have snow on the ground. I am very glad its Friday today. I am really in need of a long weekend.
In other good news my clothes for my costume should arrive today barring any mix up with UPS.
I hope to go to the gym today for the first time this week. My husband has been too tired to go the rest of the week.
The 5k is Sunday morning and I hope it is warmer by then.
For dinner or brunch on Sunday we plan to go to the place we had our rehersal dinner, which is funny since it will be the same day two years ago we were there.
On our anniversary we are planning on a trip to IKEA. Woohoo.
its the middle of october and it is 30 degrees and snowing here. Just flurries, but still way too early for snow. I wish I was with my sister in Hawaii.
