Yesterday after work, we decided to go to the movies. We ended up seeing Black Snake Moan,
I must admit I wasn't sure what to think of this movie after seeing the previews for it. It is an odd movie to describe, but it stars Christina Ricci as a young girl who was abused as child and who for many reasons is promicious. Samuel Jackson is a god fearing former blues singer, who finds Christina at the side of the road left for dead and tries to fix her. Without going into anymore detail, I will say that it is definitely worth seeing and that the previews don't do it justice. I am tempted to get the soundtrack, since Samuel Jackson's blue's songs are on it.
I also rented Half Nelson. This was yet another movie that although disturbing, I really enjoyed. It is about a teacher working in an innercity school who has a serious drug problem and is found out by one of his students. I think what disturbed me the most was the thought that there were real teachers out there like him. He was a good teacher, but the drugs got in the way. I would recommend seeing it just to see why he was nominated for the Oscar.
I would like to say that my absence in blogging has been because I have been away doing tons of fun things, but that is not the case
In reality, I am too busy at work to blog during the day and too tired and grouchy to do it while home.
Here is my week in review
- Got a few inches of snow and I realize how much I hate people who don't shovel or snowblow their sidewalks, but I realized I hate even more the peopel who do it, but do a half -ass job and end up making it too icy to walk on.
- I am glad I bought moonboots left year on winter clearance, I may look silly in pink boots, but they keep my feet warm.
- My garmin still won't sync with my computer. Ended up ordering a replacement part. Crossing fingers that it works.
- Have run 3 times this week. Tuesday, Thursday and Today. It has been snowy all three times and I still am having trouble figuring out why my yaktraks won't stay on right. I need to start increasing my distance and time out, but until it warms up I am not sure that will start.
- Saw three movies this week
- Holiday (cute and recommending as a good romantic comedy for rental)
- Borat (walked out and ended up seeing Casino Royale, not a big bond fan but liked it)
- Daddy's little girl (I got free tickets to this and really enjoyed it, not much like it is show in the previews, definitely more of a drama then a comedy)
- Work as mentioned has been crazy, I have two presentations to put together in less then two weeks, which woudn't be bad if I Didn't have the rest of my work to do.
- I am taking Monday off to volunteer at an event , it should be more fun then work.
Today after our run, we went to breakfast and then headed to the movies. First on the list was Babel, which I really enjoyed. I really like movies that have a bunch of pieces that come together.
After Babel, we went to lunch and then came back to see The Queen. I really enjoyed this movie as well. Helen Mirren was excellent as the Queen, and it was interesting to see what was going on inside the Monarchy during the days after Princess Diana's death. I remember when she died, but don't really remember the whole uproar over The Queen's lack of response to the death.
I enjoyed both movies, I have seen 4 of the 5 nominated movies for Best Picture. I have yet to see Iwo Jima. Right now I am still debating of the four I have seen which is the best.
I am hoping to see Notes on a Scandal or Volver sometime this week.
In an attempt to see as many of the movies nominated for the oscars, I am going to attempt to see three movies this weekend.
Borat - I am not sure I want to see this movie. I have been told it is really fun, but wasn't on my must see list. It is playing at the dollar show though so I shouldn't pass it up. So we may go tonight
I am not sure what other two movies we will see, it depends on how our schedule ends up working out.
Movies to see :
The Queen
Notes on a Scandal
Pans Labyrinth
Letters from Iwo Jima
Babel
Volver
Last King of Scotland - Hope to see in Chicago
Jesus Camp - will rent
Half Nelson - will rent
I have already seen the following
Little Miss Sunshine
Persuit of Happyness
DreamGirls
Blood Diamond
The Departed
Monster House
Cars (although I really didn't watch the whole thing)
The Good Shepard
The Devil Wears Prada
United 93
An Inconvenient Truth
I actually have been trying to take it easy today, I did some household shredding and filing, worked on some web riddles, they are way too addictive.
My husband got home from work at 11am, which was nice. He actually took the laundry downstairs and brought it back up again clean ..woo hoo. I did have to fold, but better then trugging up and down the stairs.
We went to see another movie today. We saw the Guardian at the dollar show, it was decent for 2.00 total. I've seen 3 movies in less then 4 days...I think my sister and I have switched personalities. She has finished her christmas shopping and I haven't.
I did wrap a few christmas presents today, and add a few more items to my amazon cart. Just waiting for the money to come in to click order.
Tomorrow will be a lazy Sunday morning since I won't be running.. Maybe breakfast and a walk. Then to the inlaws we go.
I left work early to go to the movies and hangout with my husband. We went to the dollar movies at our mall to see Little Miss Sunshine. Our family must have a curse of rude people at the movies. We got to the theater and there was no one there. We sat down only for someone to sit right behind us in a practically empty theater three minutes into the movie.
I wasn't really mad they sat behind us as that always seems to happen, but the fact that they were loud and obnoxious was an issue. They laughed really loudly at things that weren't supposed to be funny, and talked non stop. We got up and moved farther into the row of seats, but it didn't help. We thought they would get the hint, but instead they were just as loud if not louder. Other people in the theater turned around to see what was going on. Finally we gave up and moved to the middle of the theater, where we still could hear them only it wasn't so loud.
The movie was excellent and I highly recommmend renting it or finding a theater to see it in before it goes to dvd this month.
Today definitely feels like a Monday to me, but I am glad its not.
The weekend went well, we didn't do much of anything Saturday, just watched the football game. Sunday after the previously mentioned run, we went over to the inlaws for a barbeque.
Sunday night we had my husbands eleven year old sister spend the night. So we went to see Step it Up, which reminded me of save the last dance , and it was pretty cute. She enjoyed it.
We then at 11pm when to 7-11 to get Slurpees. They now have yummy crystal light slurpees. After that we headed home and played multiple rounds of hello kitty Uno. Much like the regular UNO, but with hello kitty on the cards in different outfits. There is a special Love me Not card which involves saying Love me if you play a card, love me not if you have to draw.
At about 2am we went to bed, only to awake at about 9am . The morning was pretty quiet just hanging out while everyone showered. Then we went to breakfast and then to the bookstore where she got this book
We then went to the mall while her brother went home to nap. We had a great time at the mall and were able to find some good deals. I got a cute skirt for 3.97.
We then took her to Olive Garden and then home.
I think it was really fun.
I really didn't get much exercise in yesterday, except for walking around the mall for 1.5 hours. I also tried to eat reasonably well the multiple times we ate out, which isn't always easy.
Who's your favorite movie villain?
Dr. Hannibal Lecter
We went to see two movies this weekend, Invinsible and Da Vinci Code . I would recommend both. Invinsible is the football movie with Marky Mark, which was actually really good. Da Vinci Code was also good, a bit scarier then I excepted.
I also rented Totsi from the library. This was a really interesting movie about a 16 year old thug in Africa who steals a car only to find a baby inside. The movie follows how he deals with this predictament.
After watching two semi graphic movies, I ended up getting awoken at 2am by a noise or my husband being startled, not sure which. Either there was a noise that awoke us both, or he dreamed there was a noise woke up startled and stratled me. Not sure which, but I ended up not sleeping well as a result.
