This weekend my brother and sister participated in the Chicago Marathon. I am very proud of both of them. As most of you have heard by now, the race was canceled midway through due to the heat. I can not imagine being in that situation at all. Reading my sister's recap made me very sad. I don't know how you could run out of water in a race. It happened to me at a 5k in 75 degree weather, but that is a different story. They knew it was hot , and they had to have know that people would take more then one glass of water. I can't believe that the race organizers didn't realize people would be pouring water on themselves. Have they not run in the heat before.
Please read about their experiences at their blogs.
When visiting the irunlikeagirl website, I noticed that they have a feature called I run because.
I think this is a cool idea. I thought it might be good for me to think about why I run. Here are some of the things I came up with
I run because
- I never used to think I could
- it makes me feel strong
- I love the feeling of accomplishing something
- it makes me closer to my mom, sister and brother who also run.
- I can escape the real world when run or think about the world when I run. Its my choice
Don't forget you can win a bag from irunlikeagirl by entering my raffle.
Looking for another reason to donate to a good cause?
I am raffling off this mesh backpack/cinch bag from iRUNLIKEAGIRL. The bag retails for $12.00. To be included in the raffle, you just need to donate $5.00 or more before September 1 to Team Tiara for Girls on The Run.
These bags are great for carrying gym clothes, diapers, snacks etc. They also make a great substitute for a purse.
I will randomly select the name from the donations recieved during this time. You are welcome to donate more than once. Multiple donations mean multiple entries.
Thank you in advance for your help. This is a great item and a good reason to donate if you haven't already or to donate again.
Special thanks for iRUNLIKEAGIRL for donating the bag for the raffle.
As most of my regular readers know (i do have regular readers, right?) , I am running the 1/2 marathon in less then 3 months. This is my first distance run beyond a 10k. I am raising money for Girls on the Run as part of my training. Every donation helps, instead of buying a cup of coffee today you could donate money to a great cause.
Hi Vox, how have you been???
I finally feel as though I have some time to catch up. Work has been crazy. I've been working about 50 hours a week for the last few weeks. This week was pretty normal except that I worked the 4th. I ended up taking yesterday off last minute to use up some of the time they won't pay me for.
Why did I do on my day off, I ran and then went to breakfast with my husband, who had the morning off. He went to work and I went to the mall to spend money. A few weeks ago , I volunteered to help a Youth Conference staying with us that needed an RA. They paid me 150.00 to do bed checks and wake up calls. It ended up being pretty easy money. Couple that with the ot that the U had to pay me for, I decided to go to the mall and get a few things I needed and look around. I finally got my mom's b-day present, which I will be able to give her next weekend when we go visit. Victoria Secret and Bath and Body works were having their semi-annual sales so i got some good deals there as well. After that I headed home, where we watched about 4 hours of 24 season 2....because we could.
I am half way through season 2 now. Its such a good show. On tap for today, some light housekeeping, visiting the running shoe store to look for new shoes, prehaps some tennis, and then later today Top of the Park. It feels like a Sunday, I'm so glad its only Saturday.
I am feel so guilty for neglecting this blog. I mean to write in it, say important things, but I get to busy or distracted.
As most of you know I have two other blogs,Tiara Training and my new Joss Stone blog.
Maintaining 3 blogs is going to be difficult, but I will do my best.
So what's new you ask?
- Not a ton, work is still really busy and we are short staffed. I think if I can make it through next week that things should quiet down a bit. I will be working July 4 so as every one else seems to be leaving for vacation. I am here.
- I have officially become additcted to 24. We are 16 hours into season one. Season 2 is on hold for us at the library. This is definitively filling the void of summer tv options.
- No vacation plans any time soon, but I need to make some.
- Training is going well, despite the heat. I am now strength training.
- I am still reading, although I haven't picked a new book yet.
- I'm glad it has cooled down some.
I run 4 times a week now and need new music to run to. Tell me your favorite song right now, or a song that you have always loved.
Preferably something uptempo, if it is good to dance to it is probably good to run to.
There are just about 4 months left until I run the 1/2 marathon. The training is going well, I started lifting weights yesterday and am pretty sore today, but hopefully as I get use to it that will change.
Fundraising is going pretty well, but has sort of leveled off. So I am hoping that I can get people to talk to their friends, co-workers, families about possibly donating as little as $1.00 or as much as they can to Team Tiara to Benefit Girls on the Run.
Girls on the Run is an awesome program that teaches little girls about running as well as raises their self-esteem and educates them on bullying, gossip, drugs, being thankful, standing up for yourself, community service as well as other great lessons. The program culminates in a 5k that the girls run with other women from the community.
It teaches girls to feel good about their bodies and that they can run.
The money I raise will go to help keep the program running. It is a non-profit program with volunteer coaches.
Please help if you can.

I went home to visit my parents last night and ran in the Happy Trails 5k (click for review) today. The race was good, but it was hot. After the race and lunch, I headed back home for a birthday party for the baby of one my friends it was a good party. Pretty low key, most of the families with kids left and we hungout with my friends until about 10. I think I have to work tomorrow so there goes my weekend.
So yesterday my husband frustrated me. We run together all the time, I set the pace, pick the route, carry the keys and wear the garmin.
I run faster then he does (not by much) so I usually lead and he follows. As we were running yesterday he came up behind me and said " if you were running any slower you would be walking" I was pissed. I said then just pass me I don't care. Of course he said " I don't know where we are going" , I told him. He said never mind he would just go home.
So I gave him the keys and he went home. I proceeded to use my anger to go fast. I can run faster then we normally do, but I am trying to keep a steady pace and increase distance not run fast and have to walk alot.
He did finally apologize, but boy was I mad.
